Facilities

The original Club House which was completed in 1916 has been altered and enlarged many times over the years. Major renovations and refurbishments were carried out before the centenary celebrations in 2007 and we now have a Club House befitting our status. The lounge and Bar are elegantly and comfortably furnished and the views over the course to the sea are splendid. The conference/function room has equally as good a view as does the dining area adjacent to the kitchen. Most golfing essentials and clothing can be purchased at the pro shop situated at the entrance to the club house. The ladies and men’s locker rooms are extremely functional and well appointed.

A lot of our very junior members enjoy playing the mashie course near the club house but some longer in the tooth have also been spotted wedge in hand. Practice facilities have recently been erected near the first tee to enable serious competitors a chance to “warm up’ before a game.

Mrs Vicky Petersen is the caterer and does a superb job. A wide variety of snacks and meals are on offer and she also caters for conferences, parties, weddings and formal dinners. The function room can comfortably accommodate 80 people.

Royal Port Alfred is an ideal venue to host corporate golf days. It is centrally situated in the Eastern Cape and there are a number of accommodation establishments nearby offering excellent value for money. Corrie van Zyl, the club manager, will ensure that these days are well organized and successful.

The Bridge Club

The Port Alfred Duplicate Bridge Club was started by the ladies in 1927 and is now an integral part of the club with over 80 members. Bridge is played on a Monday and Thursday and tuition is given to beginners and more advanced players on a regular basis. They are also equipped with the most up to date computerized dealing and scoring equipment. There is a substantial group of “swallows” that migrate to Port Alfred for a few months every summer who are most enthusiastic members of both the Bridge and Golf section. Visitors are always welcome.
