The “1820s”
The course has 13-5 layout and in 1968 a few older gentleman members began to meet for a casual 13 holes together. This format soon gained rapid popularity with a band of retired, semi-retired and not so fit enthusiastic members who find playing the last 5 holes too strenuous. They meet on a Monday and Thursday morning and enjoy much fun and fellowship together in their efforts to avoid being presented with the “Moosehead” the trophy awarded to the last covey at each meeting. Contrary to popular belief the name given to “this fellowship of mostly senior golfers” derived from the old Johnnie Walker slogan- Born 1820 but still going strong!
The KGB
In the mid 1980’s an informal group of golf enthusiasts from Kenton on Sea started playing together on Mondays and in around 1990 switched to Tuesday and Friday mornings to avoid clashing with the 1820’s. In 1998 they were officially named the KGB (Kenton Golfing Brotherhood). Both men and ladies and also not only those from Kenton are always warmly welcomed. The Hammer and Sukkle, a trophy presented to the worst scoring covey at each meeting, was first awarded in 2005.
Pam
A group of men and ladies gather at the club early on Saturday morning and a draw takes place to arrange mixed four balls. It has gained in popularity in recent years and now also enjoys regular sponsorship and small prizes are awarded.
